Spanish “Crowned” also known as “The Crowned City”. A resort town situated across downtown and the San Diego bay. It is a tied island with a stretch connecting South Bay with miles called The Silver Strand. Coronado dates as far back as 1000 years, confirmed by archeological excavations.
One of the most iconic is the Coronado Bay Bridge, which opened in 1969 and has an astounding vertical clearance of 200’ and spans 2 miles. This affords quick and easy access to San Diego.
It is also a city proud to be home to many in the military, with world renowned training to the most elite aviators, and special forces on North Island. In 1961, the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk (CV-63) arrived in Coronado after the channel was deepened to receive her. This was the first supercarrier home ported here.
This very special place captures the hearts of many who create memories that resonate for years and often leave many with the desire to stay or move here.
In 1886, there were three friends and colleagues that came to visit Coronado, one of which was a San Diego developer, Alonzo Horton. The three fell in love with the beauty of Coronado and decided to buy the island and build a historic hotel right on the sand for many to enjoy for years to come. In just two short years, the legendary Hotel Del Coronado opened. This is a historic hotel stand today that cannot be missed!
Coronado shores is like no other, with white sandy beaches, cool ocean breezes, and the whitewater, which lends itself to some of the best body surfing around! The golf course is open to the public and one of the most desirable to play, named by many golf pros as “The Gem”. Many may not realize that one can bike around the entire island without needing a car to get around.
